What is Shipserv?

ShipServ is a search and online trading platform for the maritime industry, headquartered in London, United Kingdom, and operating globally.

Founded in 1999 by Paul Ostergaard, ShipServ was conceived with the idea of utilizing the Internet to assist maritime and oil companies in improving their procurement of supplies and spare parts. In its early days, ShipServ co-founded the Marine Electronic Commerce Association (MECA), a non-profit organization managing the MTML standard.

The core product of ShipServ is called TradeNet, connecting the purchasing systems of buyers with all suppliers, enabling them to conduct electronic procurement transactions. As of 2019, according to its website, ShipServ had more than 260 shipowners and ship managers as customers, linking them to over 73,000 suppliers, facilitating a total trade value of around $4 billion annually on its platform.

In 2006, ShipServ introduced ShipServ Pages – a global online search tool and directory of maritime suppliers. Presently, there are over 73,000 suppliers listed on the ShipServ Pages.
