LIFERAFT INSPECTION SERVICE

Liferaft maintenance service at GOTCO is compliant with IMO 761(18) and authorized by 14 industry leading manufacturers with full procedures and equipment for maintenance. A team of qualified and experienced KTVs has been trained and certified by each manufacturer.

OVERVIEW OF LIFERAFT

Liferaft is an extremely important life-saving device for all cargo ships, passenger ships … besides lifeboats. Life rafts are easier to release than lifeboats in an emergency situation.

LIFERAFT

Liferafts are usually installed near the assembly area, on the port side and starboard side of the ship, close to the lifeboat, and at the bow and stern of the ship. The installation location and quantity usually depend on the size of the vessel. The liferaft housed in a container is activated automatically when the vessel is submerged in the water via a hydrostatic release (a release that connects the liferaft container and the liferaft support).

IMPORTANCE OF LIFE-SAVE MAINTENANCE

Timely maintenance of liferafts keeps the liferaft ready for use in top condition. Although it is not desirable to have to use it, but when there is an incident at sea, a life raft will help minimize damage and protect life safety for crew members. In addition, a maintenance certificate issued by an authorized maintenance operator will be a valid document that helps the vessel to be operated continuously without any interruption in time.

MAINTENANCE INSPECTION PROCEDURES

Edit Content
  • Visual inspection
  • Open the container and remove the liferaft

Edit Content
  • Spread the liferaft on the standard floor
  • Check the life-saving equipment, separate the damaged and expired supplies and equipment into the specified area.
  • Make the checklist of liferaft inspection: replace/renew standard equipment/supplies according to the checklist
  • Pumping compressed air into the liferaft (the upper and lower raft compartments) from 100-110mm/hg: check the float chamber and the liferaft discharge pump. Test the safety valve: after 1-2 hours, if the pressure is still kept at 100-110mm/Hg, it is satisfactory. + Check for non-removable items on the liferaft
  • Depending on the age, we will do more suitable tests (according to the table next to them)
