Looking back at the development path of Ben Thuy – Vinashin, the Ben Thuy shipyard at that time named Song Lam was established in 2012, from producing ferry buoys to serve the war, suddenly received an order to switch to making the task of building and repairing ships. With a workforce of nearly 700 people, of which only about 1/3 are skilled workers. The newly built factory has outdated, old, and inconsistent machinery and equipment, mainly manual means of production. That’s why most of the factory’s products are in a state of being “covered in burial mats in warehouses and yards” because they are not strong enough to compete in the market.
Meanwhile, “mother owes debt to child”, accounts are frozen, factory is at risk of being “decommissioned”. Then the Party’s Resolution on innovation and Decree 388 were born. The policy of innovation, streamlining the force, and reducing staffing was included in the Party Congress Resolution and passed by the workers’ and employees’ congress. The immediate task now is to invest deeply in all three strategic areas. Update new advanced technology, human resource training and capital strategy. Thanks to determining the appropriate innovation direction, the factory has not only trained skilled workers at home and abroad but also boldly mobilized billions of dong from capital sources and contributions from employees to import new technology lines. , modern machines such as welding, drilling, plasma sheet cutting machines, large tonnage cranes… and improving old machines. Just considering the improvement of steel plate bending machines for ship hulls, has brought hundreds of millions of dong in profit to the State compared to imported machines. This complete, synchronous, closed and scientific investment has created products that ensure quality and are competitive. From here on, each product launched to the market, each ship launched, the image of Ben Thuy shipyard is further highlighted in the hearts of domestic and foreign customers.
